As part of GHAMRO’s commitment to protecting the rights of music creators and publishers, each registered member is assigned a unique Interested Party Information (IPI) Number. This number is issued on behalf of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), the global network of authors’ societies.
What is an IPI Number?
An IPI (Interested Party Information) Number is a 9 to 11-digit unique international identifier assigned to songwriters, composers, and music publishers. It is used worldwide to accurately identify rights holders and ensure that royalties are correctly allocated and paid.
Why is the IPI Number Important?
In today’s global music industry, many individuals may share the same name. The IPI Number serves as a critical tool to distinguish between rights holders with identical or similar names.
For example, if two different songwriters are both named “Yaw Manu,” their IPI Numbers will differentiate them, ensuring that each is properly credited and compensated for their work.
Issued Upon Registration
When you register with GHAMRO, your IPI Number is automatically generated and assigned. This process is conducted in accordance with CISAC’s international standards and ensures your rights are protected globally.
Multiple Names and Pseudonyms
If you use multiple professional names or pseudonyms, a separate IPI Name Number will be assigned for each. This ensures that all of your creative identities are recognized and managed within the global music rights system.
Collaborator Coordination
To maintain accuracy in royalty distribution and metadata management:
- Share your IPI Number with all collaborators, including:
- Music publishers
- Sound producers
- Distributors
- Aggregators
- Request and record the IPI Numbers of your collaborators as well.
This ensures that your contributions are correctly attributed in all music rights and royalty systems globally.
